Miesian Rocking Chair

Miesian Rocking Chair

Miesian Rocking Chair

There’s something about rocking chairs which fascinate me!
Yes, I like the traditional style wooden rockers that remind me of a grandmother sitting knitting, but further more I much prefer modern alternatives and new design concepts. Miesian Rocker is such a design.

This stylish rocker is made from large polished stainless steel rockers, a beautifully quilted white leather seat which is composed of high density foam and a visible curved hand produced plywood back in a variety of different woods to coordinate with other furnishings or interior colour schemes.

The whole design concept of Miesian rocker is striking. The large curvaceous rockers bring this chair right into the 21st century in a chic and elegant style which would grace any interior design scheme wonderfully. Polished chrome makes a welcome change from wood, providing a fresh, clean streamlined appearance which will need to be kept spotlessly clean to retain the visual effects.

There is nothing overly pretentious about Miesian Rocker. It simply serves its purpose of providing comfortable seating perfect for relaxing, watching TV or simply chatting on the phone. Definitely not for children or the young at heart to rock so violently just to see how far it will withstand such treatment before it tips over!

To be treated with the respect I believe it deserves, to be appreciated for its visual appeal, stylish elegance and used for graceful rocking only by the those who appreciate the finer things in life!

The great thing about rocking chairs is that they don’t have to match any existing furniture suites; they look stunning as a contemporary or traditional addition to any interior design style. Neutral white and chrome blends with virtually any other style and colour of furniture.

Over-sized Fireplaces

Pivoines Fireplace

Pivoines Fireplace

Modern homes or homes which are under going renovation or make-over will have to give consideration as to a heating solution. This stunning fire place and surround offers a new concept in providing heating and a great visual focal point to a room.

The popularity of over sized furniture and fixtures has been cleverly used by Chazelles in their Pivoines fire and surround in Brilliant Polar decorative marble, with large bas-relief style flower designs.

The huge size gives the appearance of a piece of wall art with some very practical heating qualities included. The fire itself is also oversized, making it an ideal heat source in rooms which are larger than a conventional semi-detached home!

Chazelles have also designed a fire surround which is elongated rather than high. Made from durable and robust black marble with Japanese style ‘cut out’ blossoms in white. Which provides a beautiful ‘picture’ against black marble off to one side of the actual fire. This particular model called Tokyo, is a modern alternative to a traditional fireplace and surround. For more details of the Tokyo design visit www.homedesign.com .

I love both designs; Pivoines is ideal for modern interior design styles and those who love to feel young at heart, the large flower shapes are reminiscent of the sixties flower power but in a far more subtle way! While Tokyo provides a modern, yet more modest look which would look great against a chimney breast or wall painted in dark rich colours. This smaller design is ideal for smaller sized rooms and homes which favour a more traditional style interior.

Footprints Rug

Footprints Rug

Christmas is upon us and by the weekend will all be over for another year! Before you’ve had time to take down your decorations and recycle the tree, the TV ads will begin to try and tempt us to pre-booking summer holidays with ‘promises’ of tropical paradises!

Dreams of holidays and balmy days spent on beautiful sandy beaches can be recaptured everyday with this fantastic rug with footprints!

There is something intriguing about this rug; where are the footprints going? whose are they? And how come there is only one print in each direction? So many questions spring to mind! Time spent relaxing, daydreaming of holidays and warmer weather is just the tonic many of us will need once the Christmas festivities are over!

The rug looks so amazingly soft with the deep plush pile. Perfect for bare feet to sink into, although it some ways it looks almost too good to step onto and ‘spoil’ the visual effect it creates.

Ideal for using to create a romantic bedrooms which reminds newly weds of their honeymoon walking hand in hand along the shore! The neutral colour blends beautifully with virtually any colour scheme, offering a sense of harmony and the peaceful tranquillity of uncrowned shores.

Alternatively, this rug would look great in a bathroom which has a seashore theme. The soft natural colours would coordinate wonderfully with stripped wooden floor boards and team beautifully with mirrors which have drift wood frames. Providing an outstanding modern alternative to star fish tiles that were popular a few years ago!

Designed by Madeline and Dudley of Amazed Ltd, this footprint rug is just one of the many different conceptual designs of wall hangings and rugs in their portfolio.

Cane Table

'Cane' Table

Designed by Lee Walsh this ‘Cane’ side table is made from laser-cut, powder coated steel.
Walsh says the design concept was taken from the ‘aesthetics of hand woven cane‘. Due to the robust material used this delightful and striking table can be used both inside and outside adding a real focal interest to a room or outside area.

A beautiful design concept which makes a very practical ‘Cane’ table which provides the look of hand woven cane perfectly.

The powder coating shown in the image is matt black and gloss white finishes.

The patterns conceived by the colour combinations add visual interests as the light reflects through the table provides a real sense of intrigue.

The proportions of the table provide a sturdy yet intricate style which would look great in many different interior room designs and colour schemes.

At his graduate show, Manchester Metropolitan University Lee was awarded both the ’Halo Living’ best in show award and runner-up in the Nomique Cassala ‘Most Commercially Viable Product’ award.

Lee’s success continues into the New Year. As one of 12 finalists of ‘Cabinet Maker Young Designer 2009’ awards he will be exhibiting at the Interiors Birmingham exhibition – from the 18th -20th January 2009. The winner of the award will be announced on Sunday the 18th.

Vladimir – Pallet Mirror

December 16, 2008
Vladimir-Pallet Mirror

Vladimir-Pallet Mirror

The use of mirrors has always been embraced by contemporary and modern interior designers. They have the ability to provide a room with so much more than some where to see a person’s reflection. Although that has always been an added bonus!

Any room in a home can be enhanced with the use of a strategically placed mirror. One of the great things about a mirror is the diversity of frames and sizes of reflective glass available as well as their natural ability to bounce natural or artificial light into and around a room to provide a sense of more space.

This striking Pallet or Vladimir mirror design and prototype is by Karl Zahn.
He has used two shipping pallets, both of which were partially destroyed and transformed them into beautiful framing for this large, yet unimposing, mirror.

An ingenious and innovative way to recycle everyday working objects which are discarded throughout the world every year. Many of the pallets are made from beautiful natural exotic woods providing each one with its own uniqueness. Stories from voyages around the world unfold in the scar and damage these pallets incur during their use and careless handling onboard ships.

The Pallet mirror would be ideal in a bathroom, bedroom, dining or lounge area. The natural colour of the wood blends effortlessly with all interior colour schemes and styles, particularly in homes which use neutral colours and are inspired by nature. These pallets were once apart of natural forests and make a real statement as the waste generated every day by mankind.

A great way to recycle shipping pallets rather than turning them into mulch or putting them a waste in land refill sites.

Question Mark Chair

Question Mark Chair

Question Mark Chair

Shall I? Should I? Could I? Would I?
Life is full of questions every day for all of us! Sit and ponder over all the questions buzzing round in your head in this fun and funky contemporary design chair!

The Question Mark Chair is designed by Stefan Heiliger for Tonon, the Italian design company synonymous for table and chair designs.

The chair is made from either micro fibre using a special elastic type fabric or leather. Both materials are injected with fireproof padding. Sitting on a chromium plated metal base the Question Mark Chair is able to rotate 360 degrees and includes a return mechanism. So not only can you sit and ponder over all the questions in your life you can turn round and round at the same time. The movement of the swivel base and the beautiful continuous flow of the chair’s design provides a unique place to sit and quite literally unwind!

A great way to inject some colour into a room. Question Mark Chair looks equally stunning on its own or used as informal table seating.

Rather than attend another ‘pointless’ meeting I think Question Mark chair could be used as a visual and yet comfortable prompt to keep a meeting on track with folk asking relevant and probing questions! Question Mark chair in different colours could be used to help put Edward De Bono’s ‘Six Thinking Hats’ theory in leading productive meetings which resul in positive outcomes into practice? Just a thought, which maybe questionable!

Ideal for modern and contemporary interior design a single Question Mark chair would look great in a teenager’s bedroom or family room. In a variety of different colours the chair would integrate effortlessly with any room’s colour scheme.

Magical Magnetic Curtains

December 10, 2008

Window coverings are part and parcel of everyday life. Originally windows or openings were covered with cloth to help reduce the amount of heat entering a home. Prying eyes are not a modern irritation, cloth strips were also used to stop passers by from peeking inside.

Whether you have traditional style curtains with tape headers or more complex goblet style headings or prefer fashionable eye-let or tab top voiles, maybe you prefer blinds in a variety of designs and styles, whatever window treatment you choose to use the fundamentals and principles remain the same….to prevent heat entering and probably more important for many of us to stop prying eyes!

Magnetic curtains

Magnetic curtains

These wonderful curtains designed by Florian Krautli have numerous tiny magnets concealed within their panels enabling them to scrunched, pulled and twisted into whatever curtain style you like to help prevent light, heat and prying eyes from getting inside a room in a variety of different ways. The curtain can also be used straight to cover entire expanses of glass.

There are so many different style options to select when letting light into the room rooms can be transformed so easily. A row of panels can all be raised at different levels and given a ruche appearance which is reminiscent of an Austrian style blind.

Maybe this is just what many hard to reach or unusual shaped windows are in need of, simply grasp and let the magnets pull themselves together to form a different look everyday!

A great concept and beautifully simplistic design in neutral colours to suit any interior colour scheme.

Glamorous and Uninhibited Chandelier!

December 4, 2008

This has to be one of the most glamorous and uninhibited chandeliers around at the moment! A real Cinderella goes to the ball vision sprang to mind when I first saw this chandelier.

Glam Rock Chanelier

Glam Rock Chanelier

Glam Rock Chandelier was created by Vikki Beamon and Karen Erikson the couple responsible for ‘Erikson Beamon’ fashion accessories. The inspiration behind the idea of Glam Rock Chandelier comes from their contemporary and vintage fashion accessories which are also encrusted and adorned with jewels in a flamboyant and unique manner.

Dripping with Japanese glass pearls, Swarovski crystals, glass and antique brass this chandelier is more object d’art than a practical lighting alternative.

This chandelier would certainly make a real statement when suspended in a room with a high ceiling! You would need to live in a large house to show Glam Rock Chandelier at its very best!

Let’s be honest here, this is definitely no ordinary chandelier to suit the average home or interior design style.

Opulence and pure indulgence spring to mind with this design concept. For those who adore Glam Rock this exuberant lighting design is reminiscent of the heady days of partying in the 80s. It may just be the visual tonic needed to boost spirits in time for Christmas and New Years festivities in 2008!

A brilliant concept to bring a revival to all things glamorous! Not surprisingly Glam Rock Chandelier has quite a hefty price tag and is only available as custom made object d’art. Maybe it will be more economical to introduce your self slowly to the flamboyant world of ‘Erikson Beamon’ and opt for a piece of glam rock jewellery which is on a much smaller scale then their chandelier!

New Innovations in Flat-Pack Style Furniture

December 2, 2008
Karma Chair

Karma Chair

This beautiful dark bamboo veneer Karma Chair designed by Jeffery Woolenzien is simplicity itself to assemble.

Comprising of two identical pieces of veneered and layered bamboo veneer the ergonomically design pieces simply slide lock together and fasten with a few clips to form this stunning chair.

Low to the floor the chair pieces are shaped to provide comfort for both lumbar and legs. The carved out designs are opposing so there is no worry of mixing up the seat and the back when assembling.

Made from just two pieces there are no actual legs to the chairs, the weight is distributed across the width at the front and with the two pieces joined at the back stability is achieved.

One or more of these chairs would look great in a conservatory to provide a very relaxed and informal area. The natural colour of the veneered bamboo is ideal to coordinate with masses of plants and flowers to offer a real touch of nature brought inside. As with any conservatory furniture and floor coverings protection from the sun to prevent fading would be an absolute necessity for this design.

Karma Chair would look equally stunning used as seating in a minimalist and contemporary home interior. Used with natural wood flooring or deep pile carpets and a scattering of rugs this chair would almost certainly bring a sense of serenity and calm to a room. An ideal chair for peaceful contemplation.

These chairs are simple in design yet very striking in appearance. A truly ingenious design idea brought to life in practical and very useable furniture. A great addition to flat pack furniture design concepts of the present and future.

Who says good design concepts have to be complicated? It’s the simplicity of this design which is so appealing.
